Eeceznber 28, 1942 To !4?mm It Itay Ctmcernt I am uriting this letter in behalf of Rr. Joshua Lederberg, who is apglylne, fcr enlistment ir, the V-l Class, U.S.E.R. Yz. Lederberg was a student of nine at Colunbia University Just before I left there to occe;t a position here at the Eorthern !le~~;ional Research Laboratory. I can start off by safing t&t this youn.g man is the most brilliant student I have encountered in my tieteen years of associi(tion with various universities. He not only has pr: amazing nenorj, but also has the rare gift of being able to think through the most dlifficult problems. He seem well versed in almost any branch of learning, especially science. His particular interest is biology, and for that reason he ahould be made use of in the medical training pro- gram. And what is sore, he should te use? as an %rAructor and not be forced to waste his ttie as a studeri. I earnestly hope that I-Ir. Lederberg's case till be given veq thoughtful consideration 80 that a man 04 such rare ability will be nest effectively utilksd for the lrar effort and yet be ulth us when the ear is won. Respectfully, Frank K. Stodola, Chemist Fexmentatlon Pivision
