Boston: Hoghton-Miflin. 596 pp. is an excellent historical account
of the overall program, and its significance in maintaining the continuity
of institutions of learning through the exigencies of WW-2. -- not to
mention that of lucky individuals, selected by competitive examination,
for continued professional training in medicine, engineering and a
few other specialties; I presumably was one of the mass of blue enlisted
uniforms (bell-bottoms and all) on parade;
