The Transformation In Vitro of R Pneumococci into S Forms of Different Specific Types by the Use of Filtered Pneumococcus Extracts
Description:
Alloway published this article shortly after he joined Avery's lab. In it, Alloway demonstrated that by dissolving certain living pneumococci cells in sodium dexoycholate one could bring about transformation in vitro, rather than in laboratory mice as had previously been demonstrated. Through the process described here, he yielded the first soluble preparation of DNA, although it was not to be identified as such for 10 more years.
