Description:

The portrait of Avery on the wall behind McCarty was commissioned in 1928 by Avery's colleague at the Rockefeller Hospital, and close friend, Ernest Stillman. It was painted by Durr Reedley. In 1985, the portrait was donated to Rockefeller University by Avery's sister-in-law, Catherine Avery.
