THE HOSPITAL OF THE ROCKEFELLER INSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH S6TH STREET AND YORK AVENUE, NEW YORK 21, N. Y. January 5, 1946 Dr. 'mendell M. Stanley Rockefeller Institute Princeton, New Jersey Dear Dr. Stanley: In regard to the meeting of the American Chemical Society at Atlantic City April 12, I am very happy to say that Dr. McCarty has agreed to present our work on the transformation of pneumococcal types. The title of the paper might read as follows: "Chemical Nature of Substance Inducing Transformation of Pneumococcal Types," by Maclyn McCarty. While I appreciate the spirit in which you write, I feel it would be quite superfluous for my name to appear on the program. I have not yet received from Dr. Brand any further details regarding the preparation of an abstract or plans for publication. The tentative program looks interesting, and I am sure the meeting will be both interesting and successful. < - With kindest regards,
