    Enclosed is the updated version of Appendix I, "Summary Statement
of the Asilomar Conference on Recombinant DNA Molecules".
recall this is what is to be published in the journals and distributed to the
participants of the conference as well as many other interested people.  I
have modified Sections I and I1 a bit from the version sent to you about ten
days ago, Section 111 is my reworked version of Dave and Dick's writeup.
(This is the meat of the statement and should be carefully scrutinized by
each of you. )  We still lack Section IV and V (which was Section VI in Con-
ference document) because of a foulup in the mail from Sydney.  As soon as
it arrives, his writings will be sent along; you may also get copies directly
from Sydney.  In any case, please send me your comments about the entire
version as soon as you can.
