- Description:
- Rodbell met Barbara Ledermann in Baltimore after World War II. Barbara Ledermann Rodbell was a German Jew who moved to Holland in 1933 to escape Nazi persecution in her homeland. During the war, when German forces occupied the Netherlands, she was active in the resistance and avoided the round-ups and deportations to the death camps that eventually claimed the lives of most of her family. The photograph's title is taken from a handwritten caption on the back of the photograph.
