16 ;iiiillis Drive Closter, New Jersey October 22, 1362 Dear Dr. Mirenberg, I am a hQh-school junior, very much interested in science, particularly DNA. Through all of the magazine and newspaper arti- cles I could find, i have seen what tremendous progress has been made in this field. However, I have found miny discrepancies in the articles, especdally on the matter of the doublet vs the triplet combinations of adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine. A recent article of The New York Times said that you had done --P extensive research on the theory of the triplet combinations, but did not go into any detail. I was wondering if you could send me more complete information on this. Also, could you ,lease sugyest some kinds of work which can be done in the field of DNA without the benefit of specialized research facilities. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give. Thank you very much. Yours truly, Anne Messer P.S. My aunt, Toni Nirenberg Messer, gave me your address, and I Hope that you do not mind my writing to you for this informaticn. Thank you again.
