Description:
Early in 1952, unhappy at King's College, Franklin had asked J. D. Bernal if she might transfer to his biophysics lab at Birkbeck. He agreed, but as this letter shows, it took a long time to make the arrangements; Franklin was unable to make the move until March of 1953.

Dear Professor Bernal,
I am sorry to have been so long in letting you know more about my position -- I was away longer than I expected to be.
I have now spoken to Professor Randall about the possibility of moving to your laboratory and applying to the Fellowship Committee for permission to take the remains of my Turner and Newall Fellowship with me. Professor Randall has no objection to my doing this
