The focus of this report is the change in McClintock's thinking about biochemical and physical mechanisms to explain transposition, mutation, and gene expression. These changes were developed in a series of memos to Marcus Rhoades during 1950 and introduced in an article in the "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences" the same year.
