The Barbara McClintock Papers

Title:
Letter from Almiro Blumenschein to Barbara McClintock pdf (698,417 Bytes) ocr (16,832 Bytes)
Description:
In 1962, McClintock involved herself with a Rockefeller funded program that trained Latin American scientists in cytogenetics. Through it she met and became an informal mentor to Almiro Blumenschein, who was one of the fellows in the program. The Dr. Brown noted in the letter is William Brown, a research scientist who designed the fellows' research programs and monitored their progress along with McClintock. The Dr. Stephens mentioned is likely noted cotton geneticist S.G. Stephens. In this letter, Blumenschein related many of his findings on maize knobs, on which McClintock had increasingly focused her attention in order to trace the origin of the races of maize. The accompanying map shows locations from which maize samples were collected.
