"Memorandum to Marcus Rhoades (about the Ds Locus)" [Appendix]
Description:
In this very long "memo" to Rhoades, McClintock demonstrated that she now believed that the c-m1 mutable was a case of Ds having transposed to the C locus, or just to its left. She further speculated on the patterns of c-m2. The findings completed her picture of Ds action. The memo contains sections where McClintock speculated on biochemical and physical mechanisms to explain transposition, mutation, and gene expression. Among other things, McClintock discusses the puzzling process of "hidden mutations."
