Ye believe that Dr. MoClintook ia without a doubt the most outstanding

Wh@WO.  She began her aoientifio career in 1929 with a paper which laid
the oytologioal foundation for all later work in oome  In 1931 ahe
showed for the firot time miorosoopioally the reality of ohramosome
aberration8 8uoh a8 defioienaier and fnvorsfono whore existenoe had
been cieduoed from breeding experimnts. Her observation8 demonstrated
in detail the sesential phenunena of chromoscaae pairing whioh later were
u8ed in the analysis of the ealivary gland chromo8rxner of Drosophila.
In the same year she and her student, Creighton, furnished a aytologioal
proof for genetio crossing over.  Her Taper on non-hmrologoua assooiation

prooeee at the breakage point.

Xhile this enumeration deals vrith very technical subjects, they are all
dlscoverioa at crucial points of basio oellular and genetic meohanisms
and their importenos is of a general nature.  Furthermore, her personal
influenoe has been great on the soi+$J&~~.~~~&q#m3nt of a group of
investigator8 who are nw among leaders in'their fields.
