- In 1972, Luria was asked to organize and serve as director for the Center for Cancer Research at MIT. The nucleus of the center comprised of Phillips Robbins, David Baltimore (who would share the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1975), and Luria, although Luria never researched cancer himself. In the fall of 1973, the center opened in this building, formerly a chocolate factory.
