Description:
In this speech Luria gave to a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he addressed the "certain gloom in the world of biology" fanned by "prophets of doom" that believed that "all that was exciting to solve in biology has been solved." In it he discussed the attack by integrationists on scientific reductionism, the influence of social sciences on biology, and offered a "pure reductionist creed" that he based on three principles (see page numbers five and six). To explore this, he used the studies of evolution and embryology as examples. He closed with a brief discussion of biolinguistics.
