In this draft of an article that appeared in an American Medical Association publication, "Prism," Luria suggested that a pathology existed in the personality of a researcher who would cheat in science. Because science is marked by external and internal control measures which continually demand verification, he noted that only a distorted sense of reality could account for someone who would falsify or fabricate results.
