As the title suggests, this speech was broadly conceived, touching on various aspects of social, political, and academic life. Among other things, Luria urged scientists--in his view, the primary practitioners of intellectual rationality, as well as the sources of technological advances that often had dangerous potential--to demonstrate a greater degree of social and political responsibility.
