Dear `Dr. Koop:

On behalf of the group which met with you on August 29 and of
the 14.4 million Southern Baptists, I want to thank you for the
courtesy extended us by your invitation to discuss the enormous
problem which our country faces with the AIDS nightmare. We
applaud your commitment to bringing forth a factual, candid
report warning the nation of the many dangers posed to
our citizens.

We look forward to receiving your report `when it is published.
We &hall be exploring ways in which we may inform our constitu-
ency, and anyone else who will listen, of the dangers posed by
AIDS and will strive to contextualize the problem within our
Christian tradition's emphasis upon monogamy, sexual f'idelity,
`dtug-free living, and resistance to promiecuoue life-styles.
