- "I think most of the programs were really quite different. They operated on the assumption that they were going to very quickly bring new innovations in technology and in health services to more peripheral areas, or they were going to make major assaults upon the heart disease, cancer, and stroke problem. Many of them--in fact, I guess most of us--eventually focused on continuing education, which ended up being an activity that, although present from the first, received more emphasis later on."
