return from Europe. Besides, Reidy and I are up to our neck in the Sen9'ce push for S.377 -

2- Senator Ruseell is the key guy in the Senate, but is is practically impossible to

get to him. He is m-inp; t'ne McArthur hearings, and he is inaccessible. Fleidy left for
Georgia last night to talk to Dean Wood at Emory and get some material to show that the
hssell ameddment -$lor! foi. each existing student and $2,000 for each new one -wouldn't

help Emory at all. I have called Russellls adminis rative assistmt seven times in the

past three days, but still can't ?et an apointment with Zussell. That is wh.r I didn't go
to Georgia to talk to Dean He1 y at U. of Georgia Medical - I couldnit get out of the 3ocket

here while sweating out an apnointment with Russell.

    Of course, Florende Mzhoney is the key, in a way, to k3rRussel1., and Reidy ad
f are quite mnoyed about her lack of 'Isav-y" on the whole issue. She could real-y set it
up so that I could see Russell socially at her home and really get sone goocl licks in.

     Lester Grant and Dem Beriry of Harverd are working like Rell, I enclose a copy of
the latest letter fron Grant to Reidy. &finera1 %mxons is somewhat of a disapointment -

he is rather slov on the iiptdce. I tried to get him to dig uy some stuff on the
Commission on Financing 'Jigher   ducat ion -he knows Wriston, %ck and the other key guys on

it. He cane through with przcticdly nothing, Re is a sweet py, but he is kind of out of

touch with things. Hinsey has been out on the West Coast, so hasn't been helpful. He

promised us held c 11 Wood at Enory and. get ';load to work on Russell, but he didn't do it.

Very annoying.

+Because of the Reader's Digest article and the renort of the Comriission OT~ Finacing

Eigher Education, I had to throw our big 4C-rninute speech out of the window and st, rt all

over again. 1 have completed the revision - it is in Pastore's hands,

    I spent three days scouring up material to knocl.; the props out from under the

Comrnission on E'inancing Yi&er Education,  I enclose a 10-minute syeech on the subject - the

problem now is to get someone good to deliver it. We have no one with any real zip on our

   6- Ahw Wonen's Division of the DNC is doing a fine job on distributing the

lit le pmyhlet on S.337. They got 5,000 out a few weeks ago,  and then Miss Frusher came


to me an?. saic shels like 3,000 more, but had no budget for it and couldn't do anything

with Mrs. Edwards 3,wa.y. I talked to Reidy, and we both agreed it was importmt to get the

pam-phlets out before the Senate fight.  I enclose the bill from Miss Frusher. You can

deduct the amount from our ecense allowance for S.337.

   7- Senate Apnropriations is marking up the Institutes todzy.Ha2 bredcfest this
morning with Adam and Schlaifer -Schlaifer here for Mental %alth Advisory council,
