High resolution version (9,813,535 Bytes)
- Description:
- The back of this photo reads: "ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION: Aedes aegypti Erad.--Perifocal Spraying. 7323. Caracas, Venezuela. Perifocal treatment of a water container by an aegypti inspector. Hundreds of this type of "squatter" dwellings are appearing rapidly on grounds near modern apartments for workers (in background) and could soon cause serious sanitation problems. American nations are engaged in the Hemispheric eradication of this mosquito which is the vector of Yellow Fever in its urban form. PAHO/WHO actively assist their efforts and eradication has been completed everywhere except in the United States, Argentina, and some areas in and around the Caribbean."
- The Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization used methods like these, which Soper pioneered, in global disease eradication work.
