Description:
This was Szent-Gyorgyi's first research publication, describing work done in the laboratory of his uncle, anatomist Mihaly Lenhossek. According to Szent-Gyorgyi, his uncle chose this project for him because Lenhossek suffered from hemorrhoids and hoped some useful knowledge would come out of the study. Szent-Gyorgyi would later joke that his eminent uncle had given him his start in science, but at the wrong end.
