To verify the results of their 1932 study, which indicated that "hexuronic acid" was in fact vitamin C, Szent-Gyorgyi and Svirbely ran additional tests with guinea pigs, using vitamin C derived from a new source, the red peppers used to make paprika (Capsicum annuum).
