In this presentation (the first annual lecture at the University of Chicago, honoring legendary physiologist Anton J. Carlson, 1875-1956) Szent-Gyorgyi concisely explained why he believed it essential to study biological processes at the sub-molecular level, and gave examples from his recent research into biological free radicals.
