Mental Depression in Hypertensive Patients Treated for Long Periods with Large Doses of Reserpine
Description:
In the early 1950s, the extremely effective antihypertensive drug reserpine, a pure active alkaloid of the tropical plant rauwolfia, became available for clinical use. In this article, Freis reported that in high doses reserpine resulted in severe mental depression.
