Annotation by Joshua Lederberg:
Node: Davis, Bernard D. died 1/14/94. See his books and extensive
memoir "Science and Politics: Tensions between the head and the heart.
Ann Rev Microbiol 46:1-33 1992. and forthcoming memoir in the
Biogr. Memoirs, NAS -- by Werner Maas; Davis' own papers are in
the Harvard Medical Archives at the Countway Library;

KW: P-15; Earlier letters hopefully might be found, but this is part of the saga of our
independent discovery of the penicillin method for isolating auxotrophic
mutants, and our decision to publish jointly; preferably in JBC --
but failing that [editors said it was not "chemical" enough, then
in the JACS. Cf P-15 and subsequent commentaries, perhaps for further
correspondence.;
