Annotation by Joshua Lederberg:
KW: lac mutants; one of the earliest accounts of our work
on the Lac system

Presented at Genetics Society /AAAS meetings Sept. 1948 in Washington
(likely my first visit there since childhood -- 1936)

Strange pleiotropic phenotypes are still poorly understood; some are
likely associated with cAMP regulation. They are diagnosed on EMB
agar, which is not much used by others. So what we now know as
permeases are also likely to be involved.

First report of our beginning study of genetic control of E. coli
enzymes.
