Dear Doctor Lederberg:
I am a graduate student in the Department of Bacteriology, here, at Cornell University. For my thesis work, I would like to attempt to study purine and pyrimidine metabolism in phage infected purine-less and pryimidine-less mutants of E. coli. I would, therefore, appreciate any purine-less or pyrimidine-less mutants of your E. coli K-12 strain which you might have. If you do not have such mutants, I would appreciate a strain of K-12 which could be used in the induction of such mutants.
Very truly yours,
Elizabeth Burgi
