Dear Dr. and Mrs. Lederberg:
Many thanks to you for your share in making that retirement party staged for me in the library one afternoon last month a very memorable one. The gathering of colleagues and the volume of letters and the generous travel fund that were all a part of it touched me deeply. In fact I was well nigh bowled over by it.
It has been a real pleasure to all of the staff to serve and to get acquainted with the wonderfully fine group of people that the College of Agriculture has attracted within reach of our services. That together with a feeling of having made a real if very small contribution to the standing of our College of Agriculture among her sister institutions has made the job a thrilling one. I only wish I could have stayed with it longer.
Cordially yours
Clarence S. Hean
