On getting to the lab this morning I found a brief note from Martha Tsnehida with the news that Rita died last week. I called
Mike, since I was worried about him, and he told me a bit more. Apparently Rita fell down a flight of stairs about a month
ago and cut her forehead rather badly, but there was no suspicion of any fracture or internal cerebral injury. She complained
occasionally of headaches, and then died quite suddenly on Tuesday morning with a massive cerebral hemorrhage. Mike, to my
astonishment, is apparently in full control of himself and working hard at the lab, now that the initial shock is past. He
also says he can't bear the sight of alcohol.
I discover that I walked off with one of your reprints, which is being returned under separate cover; also with the wrong
copy of "Microbial Genetics", but since this doesn't seem to have any vital annotations in it, I'll keep it
in place of the one you sold me.
Once again many thanks for a very pleasant weekend.
