Dear Lederberg,
As Bob Sacks may have told you, my wife and I are planning to visit Madison the week --end of March 20. We would very much like to see you when we are there.
And naturally I will want to borrow a slant of your "K" strain if agreeable with you. Mostly we want to use it in the following type experiment. Hershey has been crossing virus combinations the type T2 r x T4r and isolating single bursts to see what the ratio of T2r is to T4r. Actually he's employing his many "r" types as markers.
We tried it last summer with the pair above and got all kinds of peculiar progeny. And in the face of the difficulties of working with the r type, we'd like to try crossing mutants. We could use pairs like T2hl1 x T2, but I fear for the heath of a twice mutated virus, even if we are successful in preparing it.
The thought is that if we use h mutants for the B strain, and the possible distinct h mutants for the K strain we may be better off.

We are going to write to Monod hoping to employ his strain for the same type of experiment.
We are now in the gadget building stage and have little to report.
Luria is going to be here this week-end to give a lecture. Szilard has arranged one of his bull sessions, having invited Sewell Wright and a few others.
I have married since I saw you and I'm hoping to take my wife with me to Pacific Grove this summer.
No doubt the Sack's will arrange time and place for us to meet this weekend.
Best Regards
Aaron
