Annotation by Joshua Lederberg:
Node:  Max Zelle, previously at Ft. Detrick during WW-2;
 in 1947 at NIH, had studied at Iowa State
(with John Gowen). At the 1946 Cold Spring Harbor Symposium,
he inervened in my debate with Andre Lwoff who had questioned the
"single-cell purity" of recombinant prototroph clones. He offered to do
single cell isolations himself, and to advise me on the methodology.
Subsequently we collaborated on single cell isolations of heterozygous
diploids, putting an end to that source of contention. He became interested
in radiobiology ; Prof Bacteriology at Cornell; several offices in AEC;

and then joined Colorado State University at Ft. Collins.

See BBAGKM for bibliography and CV.

Much of the correspondence entails details of our collaboration, ==
lab notes.
