Dear Joshua:
I am enclosing a vanifax copy which I think will be self-explanatory.
I have been thinking of the discussion we had during our hectic ride to Boston concerning the possibility of my visiting your lab. As I recall, sometime after this coming summer seemed to be convenient. I would be most anxious to spend some time with you and Esther, and if this should still be convenient, I can set about making some sort of arrangements. The Army offers a research fellowship with a six-month minimum period with certain advantages which should be available.
We expect to attempt the addition of virulence for mice to E. coli and are anxious to obtain suitable F- recipient coli strains. I wonder if you still have W2586, W2979, and W3255, as these would be useful. We haven't had any success with SW1336 F+13, but have F+ on S. [ . . . ] hybrid from E. coli crosses.
Yours,
Lou
