I have accepted Norm Kretchmer's offer to come into the department of Pediatrics. So we will be returning to Stanford
next year. Norm has me applying for a career development award from the Public Health Service. The application requires
four references and I hope you will serve as one. A recommendation from you would boost my chances of getting the award.

Again let me thank you for the privilege of working in your department. These past two years have been fabulous. I hope
you and Len will continue the policy of training M.D.s such as me in genetics. I think this is as important as providing
further training for biologists, especially if you expect good quality in clinical research.
