Dear Al:
Jim and I and the rest of us are still pursuing the possibilities of an appointment in genetic chemistry. I have to admit that none of the prospects fills us with anything like the enthusiasm that we had for yourself. So, at Jim's instigation and, I am sure, on behalf of the rest of us I am moved to write this one thought. It is likely to be some short while before we can mobilize again behind an alternative (and in any event less attractive) possibility. If you should have any second thoughts about the matter, I hope you won't be too bashful to drop me a line. I apologize in advance if this makes for any further perturbations in your thinking, but if there are going to be any I hope we might turn them to advantage.
You had some interest in my own plans -- it is very much less likely now than it was when I say you last that I will be leaving, at least, in the foreseeable future.
I won't expect a reply unless there is something more to be said.
Respectfully, as ever,
P.S. ENTRE NOUS (for the while anyhow) we are making a strong effort to get Kimball C. Atwood M.D. here in Medical Genetics. I mention this in hope it would be a factor in our favor.
