Dear Dr. and Mrs. Lederberg:
Thank you very much for the lovely letter and postcard. I have enjoyed reading about your experiences in your weekly letters.
The weather has been beautiful and the weeds in your strawberry patch have been doing fine. They appear faster than I can remove them. The thermodynamics and kinetics involved are all in their favor.
The canavanine has arrived so I am attempting to get resistant mutants. I am also trying to get a double mutant -- so far no success. I tried U.V. irrad. And penicillin selection of an orrithine strain and am now trying transformation.
meth- orri- ---* ind- citrus.- plate on Meth Cit and then look for doubles by spot test with meth- orri- DNA
Several of the orrnithine strains appear to be linked to each other.
I hope you continue to have a wonderful time on the rest of your trip.
Sincerely,
Haruko
