Annotation by Joshua Lederberg:
KW: (translation)
Dear Professor Lederberg,

I received your letter dated 1 July 1958. I
appreciate very much an enclosed reprint of your
paper since I found it very intersting.

Unfortunately, I cannot be on the Congress of
Microbiology in Stockholm because I want to be on
the International Congress of Biochemistry that
suppose to be at the same time.

I consider that your idea to organize a
discussion of the problems that you brought in
your paper is quite proper. I attempt to
contact Prof. Timakov and to share with him my
ideas regard your suggestion. I believe that he
will contact you.

With great respect to you, A.I. Oparin
