Dear Gus:
Congratulations on the Rockefeller Grant!
I am enclosing a bank signature card. For your own convenience I suggest you complete it as suggested on the thermofax copy; you can revise later at will. You can mail this back to me with any checks you want cleared: endorse them "For deposit only -- Pay to the Bank of America" and I will see they are deposited to your account. Or I will make a token deposit of 1 dollar. -- cash on your behalf to open the account.
Could you do me a comparable favor -- to clear my account in Melbourne of its remaining 12 pounds plus or minus, per the attached order. There's no point my losing 1 pound in charges per annum for an inactive account. You can reimburse me in any of the following ways, at your own discretion:
1. Keep it in your own savings account for future contingencies. 2. In dollars US at leisure over here. 3. Buy some moderately speculative Australian

company common stock at your discretion and my risk leaving the share(s) in Melbourne at your convenience (there would be some treasury regulations against exporting it now: I'm counting on all such formalities being lifted in due [?] time.
A letter from Swet-Moldawsky: he hasn't been able to reproduce induced tolerance to 'flu.
Just 4 words with Mel Cohn who has just arrived -- all his experiments have been with long-immunized animals. How long were yours?

Sir Mac stiffened up a bit later and is less worried about anti-bacterial antibodies. How truly is this ever a primary response? Can you say except with germ-free animals? --
The newspaper here had an aphorism, arent [sic] you thesis-writing: Copy from one source: plagiarism; . . . . from several: "research". Sorry to hear of your illnesses, hope you are well-over soon.

Your ship does stop over at Suva (Aug. 13). If so you ought to see Roy Edmonds, who's an interesting chap doing an interesting job as principal of the Central Medical-School for native practitioners. Syd Rubbo knows him very well. He might just still be there when your ship calls -- he's written something about visiting here sometime in August.
We'll be meeting you at the pier on August 26. Be sure to let us know of any changes of plan. We'll contact the local O and P office for exact arrival.
Bon voyage.
J.
