An essay on comparative biology?
Joe -- Can you help me find an exposition of the "comparative method in biology" that can help me trace the history of the idea(s)? I am less concerned about the Darwinian, phylogenetic motifs than the use of comparative analysis in working out mechanisms and pathways.
I have no particular article in mind but I am sure Ryan and I discussed several in the early 40's, as antecedents to the use of mutant strains within a species for this purpose
What I am looking for may be all too obvious and well-known; so please make no assumptions.
