     U.S. Navy during World War II; U.S. Ambassador to France, 1968-70; Democratic candidate for Vice President of the United States,
     1972; candidate for Democratic nomination for President, 1976. Organized and directed the Peace Corps. Received the Presidential
     Medal of Freedom in 1994. Still living as of 1994.
