I am happy to be able to inform you that we will reserve laboratory space and an assistantship for you to begin your studies
at the start of the Spring semester, February 1, 1959. It is my understanding that you will be free to continue your studies,
assuming a satisfactory academic performance, long enough to complete the requirements for a Ph.D. degree. I would guess that
you could do this in three years time.
The assistantship stipend has been increased to $1980 per annum, less the basic tuition fees, but with exemption from nonresident
Under separate cover, I am sending you some additional information as well as some reprints you requested.
Please return the enclosed form at your earliest convenience, addressing it directly to me, as your assistantship is contingent
on your admission to the Graduate School (which is more than probable) I suggest that you assemble the necessary transcripts
and apply to the Dean of the Graduate School during the next few months.
With all best wishes,
Chairman, Department of Medical Genetics
P.S. I am hoping to visit Copenhagen this summer en route to or from the Stockholm Congress, and hope to make your acquaintance
I trust you will take advantage of your stay in Copenhagen to make contact with Professor Westergaard at the University, and
with the Drs. Orskov at the State Serum Institute. The Orskovs spent last year in this laboratory. Please give them my best
