There may yet be a manuscript on the transduction or lack of it between coli and Salmonella segments. The one detail that
I still want to clear up is the role of the host controlled modification of P22 produced by the majority of the hybrids. This
in itself restricts transduction. This effect is produced by a gene close to lac (the selective member), between it and T6.
I have obtained some hybrids which don't modify, but I don't yet have all the genotypes to make the transduction story
completely independent of the phage growth abilities. It is slow going as this gene is awfully close to lac.
More fun though, I have isolated Hfr Salmonella number 1 [mark to note, (derivative of SW-950)], and I think some others are
on their way. It notes Hfr with Salmonella, but as the reciprocal case, is Lfr with F-coli. An interesting finding.

After the Madison lectures, I shall take some time off and should get this stuff in some sort of form, ready for publication.
It was good to have you and Esther with us. I shall make every effort to find a way to come West this fall.
