Dear Bob --
I did not foresee, and certainly did not intend any distress to you.
Did you think I meant Bob Merton as a mocker? If others would read it that way, I will hasten to change the MS.
In fact there are many giant-killers who enjoy the allusion to: "He who has, gets" -- there is more than a little of that in Kanigel. Were this a scholarly paper (i.e. with footnotes) I would hasten to mitigate a potential charge of plagiary by quoting you as my own source for the functionality of accumulation of advantage. Certainly we have argued the point many times.
