I.C.W. Jasons' [sic] forthcoming anniversary. I dug out the enclosed correspondence.
What puzzles me now -- and I did not think to ask then -- is how my name came to your attention. In spring 1958 I was fairly well known among microbiologists, but hardly any where else.
I knew Leo Szilard then, but no one else of the group invited; nor had I written on defense-related matters.
Can you recall anything about that?
For various reasons, I said "no" in 1958, but as you may know have amply compensated in the last dozen years.

P.S. In Jan. 1958 I had circulated some concerns about scientific objectives in space to members of the NAS. Was that a source of your attention?
