Letter from Charles R. Drew to John Becker (July 11, 1944)
Dear Mr. Becker:
I received a complimentary copy of The Negro In American Life which you so kindly had sent to me. I am embarrassed by the
position of eminence you have given me in your book but otherwise I think it is a swell job, well done.
Already I have had occasion to recommend its purchase by a Junior High School Class in Tennessee, a Sixth Grade Class in Illinois
and a High School Class in Virginia who have written to me for information concerning Negroes. I have not yet seen it on
the book stands though I have looked for it and therefore have written directly to the publisher for the copies we need. The
method of presentation is very admirable and the pictures seem to me unusually good. I congratulate you and thank you.
