On a recent trip to Tennessee I decided to look at the Avery materials in the State Library and Archives in Nashville. Not
much for my purposes. I did get a copy of the original of the entire 1943 letter to his brother.
One other item attracted my attention, a copy of which is enclosed. It is new to me, the text of a 1949 address on getting
an award from the Passano Foundation. Is it new to you? What's your reaction to this item?

I knew he had the award, but I've never seen this text. Thank you. It has no surprises--but note he doesn't say
"gave" even in 1949--long after others (including myself) did, and he himself in effect in his letter to his brother.
