Dear Professor Lederberg,
Very many thanks for the interesting letter you sent. It contains one key piece of information - that Watson audited the Avery paper as a student of Wright's. I shall write to Wright to ask if he still has any notes of that lecture course. It would be interesting to see what he then said.
I was amused to see that in his last sentence Sewall Wright agrees with what Wyatt said about the difference of field, although, of course, he rightly denies that this difference held up dissemination of Avery's work for long.
