Dear Dr. Singer:
Let me introduce myself before I fulfill my purpose in writing this letter. I am co-chair of the writing committee that is drafting new science standards for the State of Kansas. The committee's refusal to remove evolution from its draft science standards in order to placate several conservative state members of the Kansas State Board of Education has attracted national attention.
I write this letter to express my deep appreciation and thanks to you for taking time from your busy schedule to discuss evolution with three members of the Kansas State Board of Education. Independent reports from Mrs. DeFever, a KSBE member, Dr. Labov, and Mr. Pratt, both of the CMSEE staff, tell me that the meeting went well.
Again, thank you for your time spent in the service of quality science education for Kansas school children.
Sincerely.
John R. Staver, Ed.D.
Professor and Center Director
