Mr. Flexner is just back from Baltimore and has been talking with me. It seems that the question of an associate or assistant
dean at Hopkins has not been settled after all, and there is still some talk about you in this connection. Of course you understand
that despite the arrangements you and I have agreed upon for the next two or three years you are quite free, if the Hopkins
proposal is made to you, to consider it on its merits. In other words, if it seemed a desirable thing for you to do I should
interpose no objection and you need not feel that you are bound in any way to our program. However, I think the matter is
worthy of careful consideration before you make a final decision.
