Letter from William Osler to Lawrence F. Flick [Transcript]
Description:
Osler would like to arrange for Musser, Wilson, Tyson, and Flick to meet Mr. Phipps over dinner. Osler will do anything he can to help bring the International Congress on Tuberculosis to the U.S. He does not know anything about the American Congress of Tuberculosis, but has heard that it is not in the hands of the right men.

About this transcript: Soon after Osler's death in 1919, Lady Osler asked their good friend Dr. Harvey Cushing to write a biography. For this project, Cushing gathered a wide variety of material, including a substantial amount of Osler correspondence and other memorabilia borrowed from Osler's family, friends, and colleagues. He employed three secretaries to transcribe these documents, and later donated the transcripts (along with his other working materials) to the Osler Library. Because many of the original documents were returned to the owners, the Cushing transcripts constitute the largest and most accessible collection of Osler's correspondence.
Harvey Cushing's "Life of Sir William Osler" was published by Oxford University Press in 1925, and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1926.

To Dr. Flick from W. O.

November 2, 1903
Dear Flick:
All right! Musser will be good-looking enough to introduce me.
I would like to have Mr. Phipps at dinner, please, we could dine at the Club at six perfectly well, which would be a great deal better than five, and I would like to arrange to ask you and Musser and Wilson and Tyson to meet him.
I will do anything you and other good men and true wish in the matter bringing the International Congress of Tuberculosis here. I do not know anything about the American Congress of Tuberculosis. They have never sent me any literature nor any invitation, but from all I hear it is evidently not in the hands of the right men. I think it would be well for you and Ravenel to have a conference with Welch, Biggs and Councilman and others, so that is systematic attempt could be made to put matters on a proper basis.
Sincerely yours
Wm Osler
